As for the change of the time in the protocol, according to Avi Gil's own testimony there were two calls: around 06:29 a first call (on a regular unsecured phone) in which he woke Netanyahu and told him that Hamas had opened extensive fire and a broad surprise attack, and that he was gathering data and would call again, and a second call at 06:40 on the recorded red phone. When Braverman asked to change the time to 06:29, was he simply referring to the first call, or is this a request behind which lies some very unclear satanic plot? I lean toward the first possibility. Gil approached the Attorney General about two years ago on the matter (incidentally, very unlike an election interview, that was a legitimate choice on his part), an investigation was held, Braverman made clear that since he knew there had been an earlier call he asked to correct and update the time to 06:29. Two years have passed since then and no indictment has been filed, perhaps because there is no justification for one. As for the possibility of returning the hostages earlier, Gil is right, it certainly would have been possible, as Naftali Bennett demanded at the time, to withdraw to the perimeter line, that is, to end the war and return to the lines of 6.10, get all the hostages out and leave to the next government, in his words, the task of destroying Hamas. Fortunately for us, in this war Hamas faced a leader and not a doormat. So what did we have here in summary? Mainly more of the same. We've gotten used to all sorts of "formers" who break their silence frequently and lay out their political doctrine in interviews full of pathos: Yoram Cohen warned in a cover story in "Makor Rishon," with a grave face, the day before the Hamas attack, that "the social rift is the greatest threat to the State of Israel," and thereby proved charlatanism and colossal ignorance in the field in which he was supposed to be an expert. Diskin moonlighted as Shikma Bressler's apprentice on Kaplan and supported refusal to serve, Argaman gave interviews full of pathos and also supported refusal to serve, Nitzan Alon also joined Bressler and her friends, and of course he too was not absent from the political interviews full of pathos.
