Instead, through a stinking legal-security maneuver - a deep-state move par excellence - an adversarial chief of staff was forced on him, who identified with the protest against him and against the government, and saw the PM as a dangerous factor who should not be shared sensitive information. The rest - bloody history. Does this mean Dror Shalom is responsible for the murder of some 1,200 Israelis and the kidnapping of some 250 people? Absolutely not. There were enough many additional points of failure along the way, any one of which, had it not occurred, the massacre might have been prevented. Unfortunately, the failure is big enough to have many fathers - from the top of the political echelon in all the governments that served in recent years, through the top of the IDF, the Shin Bet, down to the officers in the Gaza Division and of course the instigators of the cancer of refusal. But do us a favor: a moment before the elections, stop already with the spins, and above all - stop underestimating the public's intelligence.
