Translation When Brothers in Arms break the silence The "Brothers in Arms" Twitter account has long stopped limiting itself to displays of refusal and the fight against judicial reforms. In the past week, for example, it wished a happy new year to the whole people of Israel, hyped a new propaganda film about the organization, attacked Smotrich's new AI video, and even mourned the passing of actor Ilan Dar at a ripe old age. There is only one event the organization has not yet responded to: the film "Collateral Damage," which claims that their brothers in arms, all IDF soldiers, are war criminals, child murderers, systematic exterminators of innocents. That's a bit strange, considering that the organization still demands redress for the insult to the refusenik pilots whom Minister Karhi told to go to hell. After all, these are the very same pilots who are now accused of killing Gazans for the sake of killing; suddenly they don't deserve protection? What's worse, the epithet "leeches" or the accusation "murderers"? Or as long as the enemy isn't Yariv Levin, the great patriots suddenly aren't in a hurry to take to the street with a blue-and-white flag and "defend our beloved country." Perhaps the silence is rooted in the interview the organization's representatives gave to the American program "60 Minutes," right on the eve of the massacre. Shira Etting, a reserve helicopter pilot and one of the organization's leaders, explained then why they organized a mass halt to reporting for reserve duty. The explanation given was different from the one given to the Israeli public: "If you want pilots who can fly and fire missiles and bombs on houses knowing they may kill children, they must have the strongest trust there is in the people making those decisions." "In their moral values," added refusenik Ron Scherf. Beside them sat Omri Ronen in silence, today a realistic candidate on The Democrats' Knesset slate. The message was clear: we stopped reporting for duty because the Israeli leadership of autumn 2023 is not one that can be trusted not to kill children for political purposes. Three weeks later, children and adults did indeed begin to die in the Gaza Strip from Israeli bombs and missiles. We know the truth, which is that this is regrettable but minimal collateral damage in an unparalleled justified war of existence. But what will the world understand? If in September you explained to it in fluent English that there is a real possibility Israel will kill Arab babies due to a lack of morality, and from October onward Israel did indeed kill Arab babies, the inevitable conclusion is that you are at the very least in the risk group of being a war criminal. The embarrassment of broad wings of the Zionist left and The Democrats party since the blood libel was screened in Venice is not only the result of fear of a delusional base. It reflects something deeper: loss of direction and confusion. Above all, it expresses dishonesty and the concealment of the true views of those who at the Kaplan protests for democracy – oh, the irony – tore up "End the occupation" signs so as not to deter a right-wing audience, and in that same "60 Minutes" interview explained that what all protest activists have in common is the desire to end the occupation. After all, there is consistency in someone who opposed the despicable refusal of Brothers in Arms until October 7 and also believes Israel has not committed war crimes since that day. There is also consistency in someone who supported refusal because of the government's actions before the massacre and claims Israel has committed war crimes after it. It's the same leadership, as is well known. But there is no way to explain those who in September warned in English on a respected international stage that this government might kill children for no reason, and in October themselves went out on bombing sorties in which children were killed, under that same government. No wonder Brothers in Arms are silent, that Eyal Naveh is silent, that Shira Etting is silent, that Ron Scherf is silent, that Shikma Bressler is silent. They didn't lie on "60 Minutes," it turns out. They really had doubts about the purity of Israeli arms. But they know very well what the public thinks about what they really think on the matter. That is the real reason Brothers in Arms are not breaking the silence. For the full column >>> https://www.israelhayom.co.il/magazine/hashavua/article/21446054#google_vignette

Translation The argument at the Likud campaign meeting over the attitude toward Winter. Minister Karhi: Winter is Kaplan's hope – if he wins and passes, he's with the left; if he doesn't pass, he burns our votes. Minister Elkin: If the report that Sharon Shalom is with him at headquarters is true, anyone who knows him knows that's Liberman through and through. If he wins – he's with Liberman; if we lose – he burned votes. Minister Eli Cohen: In my opinion we need to take him down. He's damage to the right. Yaakov Bardugo: Make a decision. But if you decide to take him down, then now – don't wait until the last moment like back then with Bennett and let him gain altitude. We need to start right now. Erez Tadmor: Not sure we need to. Winter can bring votes from the other side. We need to check very carefully that we're not committing a foul here. Bennett is scum. To the best of my knowledge, Winter may be a megalomaniac and stubborn – but scum he is not. Maybe he's good for us? He'll bring votes from those who don't want to vote for us, so maybe it's not worth attacking him. Minister Elkin: If Winter's goal was to bring votes from the other side, he wouldn't say he'll recommend Netanyahu, because that drives their votes away. Tadmor: He said it because we pressured him. Elkin: Note that he said he'll "recommend Netanyahu to the president"; he didn't say he won't sit in a government that isn't Netanyahu's. Tadmor: Well, right, because you have to blur the messages a bit. Elkin: He's not that sophisticated. Someone prepared a sentence like that for him – it's a clever-clever statement that doesn't lock him in. PM Netanyahu summed up: I'll look into it and give you a quick answer later.
