We spoke out loud about the shameful poverty that has become an ideology among us and sends hundreds of thousands of us running between the free-loan funds at the end of every month. We felt the pain of the disgracing of Torah scholars who dare to express a slightly different line, and we protested the meager tools with which graduates of our institutions enter the job market. This task is important and necessary, but it is like probing open wounds. It hurts and it arouses opposition. I had no illusions. I knew we were at the start of a long process. We knew we would encounter a deep and genuine fear of the repair we seek to offer. And we knew that there are quite a few parties for whom the current situation is convenient, and they will do everything to perpetuate it. But this mission burned within us with such intensity that we had no right to ignore it. And we set out. On an unpaved road, full of bumps and obstacles. And yes, we also made mistakes. More than once. There are things that could have been done differently. There are messages we should have softened, sweetened and refined, and others claim we should have been tougher. There are alliances that could have eased the fear of many supporters about wasted votes. We will conduct a genuine internal review, understand in depth the full range of mistakes, as well as the great successes we achieved along the way, and draw the lessons. But the essence has not changed. For the first time in years, a Haredi party has arisen whose entire aim is to sanctify the name of Heaven and to raise the standing of Haredi Judaism in the eyes of the entire people of Israel. I want to apologize. And to give thanks. To apologize, because we failed. I failed. We failed the test of results. Alongside the trust expressed by ten thousand voters, I failed to win the trust of tens of thousands of Haredim who identify with our path and our message, yet did not find in us an address on election day, and gave their vote to parties that are not Haredi. I take this upon myself, and we will do everything to be worthy of your trust next time. And still, what we learned in the beit midrash we know this morning too: the effort is upon us, and the outcome is in the hands of Heaven.
