Why doesn’t Yitzhak Amit want to write a ruling? Because according to the Supreme Court’s past rulings, and Amit’s in particular, there is no real legal basis for disqualifying Abu Shehadeh. After all, Amit wrote a ruling allowing Heba Yazbak to run even though she praised the killer Dalal Mughrabi and the killer Samir Kuntar. (In her defense, believe it or not, she wrote that she praised Mughrabi from a feminist angle.) Now he understands that the public will not accept a ruling that also allows Abu Shehadeh to run, after all the Zionist parties supported his disqualification. So he is trying at all costs to avoid the dilemma. It may be many things, but constitutional law it is not.

Translation As is tradition, I'll place my bets here: Mintz – will certainly support disqualification Willner – will certainly support disqualification Stein – will certainly support disqualification President Amit – will certainly support disqualification (despite his opposite ruling in the Heba Yazbak case) Grosskopf – will support disqualification Kanfi-Steinitz – will support disqualification Kasher – will support disqualification And now to the opponents: Baron-Erez: will probably oppose disqualification Kabub: will probably oppose disqualification Bottom line: a large majority in favor of disqualification, at least 7-2. Maybe it'll end 8-1 or 9:0. That depends on whether Abu Shahadeh is as bad as he was in the committee hearing.
