--------------------------------------------
Translation Exclusive to Telegram and the WhatsApp channel – an excerpt from the Friday column The full column tomorrow in Maariv's weekend edition We are all in the same boat The Central Elections Committee decided this week to disqualify all the Arabs (except Yousef Haddad, who is running in Ofer Winter's party). After the personal disqualification of Sami Abu Shahadeh, Balad chairman, the rest of the parties were also disqualified, including Mansour Abbas's Ra'am and Tibi and Jabareen's Joint List. It seems to me Meir Kahane can relax in his grave. "Arabs, out," he shouted in those good old days. And here they are, being thrown out, in a country that continues to call itself "the only democracy in the Middle East." The disqualification of Sami Abu Shahadeh is the most justified disqualification since disqualification was invented. It has historic importance. At last real and substantive content has been poured into the language of the law. Someone who writes, the day after the October 7 massacre, that it was an "important event," cannot serve as a legislator in the state of the Jews. Period. There is a limit to patience, there is a limit to tolerance; it is time to mark the red line not only in words but also in deeds. This is not open to interpretation or debate. I am not one of those who demands that every Arab MK or kid immediately condemn terror, presses him on whether Israel is the nation-state of the Jewish people, or screeches at him about why he doesn't admit that Hamas is a terrorist organization. There is no other country in the world in as complex a situation as Israel. A fifth of its population is Arab-Palestinian, while meanwhile a bloody conflict continues between it and the Palestinians over this piece of land. A national conflict that is sliding, regrettably, into being a religious conflict as well. In these circumstances, agreements and mutual understandings must be formed that will allow coexistence and also the chance to advance a reconciliation process that will ultimately lead to real, stable coexistence. In this context, my opinion is that Mansour Abbas is the Anwar Sadat of our time. The disqualification of Ra'am, his party, and also the disqualification of the Joint List, will not pass the High Court test, and they are political events meant to please the base of the right-wing parties. That, and nothing more. Whoever wants to prove this should recall the previous time Likud did not take part in the vote to disqualify Balad (!!), with which it was then doing flourishing business, as Sami Abu Shahadeh himself testified. It's all politics. If Netanyahu can form a government with Balad, or with Azmi Bishara, he will do it. It was written here last week too, and it was true then as well. Back then, on the eve of the formation of the change government, Benjamin Netanyahu tried with all his might to form a government with Mansour Abbas. What didn't he do to convince everyone involved. The base was convinced easily. Yinon Magal led the gang, in which Shimon Riklin stood out negatively, along with all the others. When it didn't work out, because of Smotrich, they flipped on Abbas with the speed of their thick skin. "It's because there were no plantings in the Negev," they cry now, or "because they didn't demolish houses in the Negev," they screech. Amichai Chikli outdid them all, someone who a quarter of an hour earlier gave an interview explaining why Mansour Abbas should and must be a minister in the government. This week, in an interview with 103, he raised the issue of the plantings in the Negev. To his shame, Chikli flipped on Abbas months before the planting crisis began. As I said, it's all politics. What needs to be done? Define a new "New Deal" between us and Israel's Arabs. On the one hand, sharpen and formulate the restrictions that will lead to revoking the right to run for the Knesset and even revoking citizenship: anyone who supports terror, anyone who opposes Israel's right to exist, anyone who harms security or incites violence against Israel. See: Sami Abu Shahadeh. On the other hand, sharpen, formulate and implement the effort to integrate Israel's Arabs into our lives. Including the Knesset, including the government, including the coalition, including everything. Also civilian service for all young Arabs, as part of a new egalitarian draft law. The vast majority of Israel's Arabs want to live here in peace, raise their children, give them an education, maintain a standard of living, develop. They appreciate the state and know that anywhere else in the Middle East their situation would be worse. They don't need to be grateful to the Jews. They need to respect the state's being a Jewish state and meet the standards formulated here. --------------------------------------------

Will the group that terrorizes Israeli society again and again and drives us into hysteria with strange inventions like "the [nuclear] facility is Chernobyl" and "the reasonableness standard is a coup" calm down? Will the group that is sure that what it thinks is stronger than reality, for example in the lie about the Emirates report, ask forgiveness? Will the group that prefers to believe Arabs like Sinwar, Tibi or Abbas and boycotts parts of its own people come to its senses? Will the members of the group, the honorable gentlemen Ronen Bar, Herzi Halevi, Haliva, say out loud: we have sinned, we have transgressed, we have done wrong? Will the members of the group, which is a minority in Israel, learn to accept the choice of the majority and respect democracy? Will the members of the group restore to words the meaning we knew as it was, and not distort it in favor of their worldview? Will the members of the group stop being members of the group and become part of the people of Israel and apologize to it for all their violent and inciting actions in recent years?
Translation The High Court struck down the transfer of Elector data, and the parties will not be able to know who came to vote at the polling station, a move expected to harm mainly Likud From the ruling: "Several petitions were filed with the Supreme Court concerning the legality of the practice under which representatives of various parties at polling stations pass to their parties information about citizens who came to exercise their right to vote for the Knesset. This reporting allows the parties to estimate which of their potential voters have not yet exercised their right and to act in various ways to encourage them to vote. Concretely, the main relief requested in the petitions is the cancellation of the Central Elections Committee's decision of 6.9.2026, which determined that in the upcoming election, party representatives at polling stations would be permitted to continue operating according to the practice in question (subject to several conditions). The main opinion was given by Justice Y. Willner, joined in agreement by Justices A. Stein and H. Kabub. In this opinion it was determined that the practice in question is not legal. This is both due to the lack of legal authorization to follow it, which is required by the principle of administrative legality; and due to the violation of the right to privacy involved in transferring said information – and specifically, due to the breach of the prohibition set in Section 2(9) of the Protection of Privacy Law. It was also determined that the Central Elections Committee is not authorized to permit party representatives at polling stations to act according to the practice in question in the absence of clear and explicit legal authorization to grant such permission. In light of the above, the petitions were accepted, and the court ordered the conditional order to be made absolute, in the sense that the said decision of the Central Elections Committee will be cancelled. It was clarified that in the absence of explicit authorization in law, party representatives at polling stations are not permitted to pass to their parties information about a person's exercise or non-exercise of the right to vote." Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Yariv Levin: "The High Court justices know that the election is about the question of who will appoint ten Supreme Court justices in the next government - me as Justice Minister in Netanyahu's government, or the Justice Minister in a Yair Golan - Abbas - Tibi government. They are trying to stop the wheels of change that have begun, and to prevent us from completing the reform. As far as they are concerned, all means are legitimate to skew the election results. In a desperate step, they are changing the rules of the game in the middle of the game, contrary to all their rulings in other cases. They are harming the integrity of the elections and inventing new rules that never existed, in order to suppress voting and to try to return to ruling the country. We must not let them succeed. The right will turn out en masse. We will vote and we will win. We will complete the reform and put an end to the takeover of our lives by a handful of judges."

“‘These are the most consequential elections in the country’s history,’ shout the street signs, internet banners, radio interviewees, and TV presenters. I have just one question: How can elections be decisive if, according to all the polls, they won’t produce a decision? When Rabin defeated Shamir in 1992 by a single-seat margin, the consequences were momentous. When Netanyahu edged out Peres in 1996 by a razor-thin percentage, the country changed course. But if the trend in the polls intensifies and the ‘change bloc’ moves further away from 61 seats, the only option will be to form a shaky government while breaking a substantial bundle of core campaign promises. A decisive outcome is achieved when a determined bloc wins a majority and coalesces into a stable camp for years. When an eclectic collection of parties joins together for a single vote in the Knesset, that isn’t called a decisive outcome—perhaps a temporary political maneuver. Anyone who doubts this is invited to recall the adventure of the ‘change government’: how it began and how it ended. The significant development following the closing of the candidate lists, therefore, is the merger of Chili Tropper’s party into Eisenkot’s list. It was an intra-bloc contest between Yashar! and Beyachad, but with significant implications for the day after the election. After all, members of ‘Bayit Tzioni’ had previously pledged that they would not support a minority government, even if it were sworn in thanks to the abstention of the Arab parties. Eisenkot’s plan is somewhat reminiscent of what Jewish law calls the prohibition on ‘instructing a non-Jew’ to perform forbidden labor. You’re at a hotel in Rome on Shabbat, dying from the heat, and there’s an Italian next to you. You’re forbidden to tell him, ‘Turn on the air conditioner,’ because that would violate Shabbat. But you can say, ‘It’s hot as hell in here,’ hoping he’ll get the message on his own. That, broadly speaking, is the Eisenkot plan: We won’t negotiate with Abbas and Tibi and demand, ‘Vote for us’; we’ll just say, ‘If Bibi doesn’t fall, it’s on you.’ Only after the election will we know whether publicly laying out the plan on this issue was courageous or foolish. But the logic behind it is to give voters hope for an upset, allowing them to weather difficult weeks in the polls—and the past week was certainly one of those. The merger talks focused on this gap between the two sides. Tropper himself, after all, was among those who thwarted the formation of a similar government headed by Gantz in 2020. Any reasonable person can see what his history means for the chances of forming such a government, as well as the fact that he is being joined by Elisaf Peretz and Shira Shapira, a bereaved brother and a bereaved mother whose loved ones were murdered by the organization that none of the Arab MKs are willing to call by the obvious term: ‘terrorist organization.’ It appears that common ground was reached on the basis of a twofold understanding. First, Eisenkot will make almost every effort to broaden the government. Netanyahu would not be the first choice, but perhaps the second. If not Likud, then perhaps Winter or Smotrich. Anything that would make it possible to broaden the government’s base. And if that fails, the intention would be to swear in a minority government, but not as a long-term project—rather, for a short period, either until the coalition is expanded or until another election. The public justification would be that if the country is going back to the polls anyway, then the only question is whether that happens under a Netanyahu minority government or an Eisenkot minority government. The main problem with this scenario is the prospective partners. Lieberman and Bennett have already made clear that they would refuse to join such a move. True, they said the same sort of thing in 2021 and then formed a coalition with Ra’am. But this time there is also a political self-interest involved. > >

Translation These are the most fateful elections in the history of the state," shout the street signs, the online banners, the radio interviewees, the TV presenters. I just have a question: how can elections be decisive if, according to all the polls, no decision will be reached in them? When Rabin beat Shamir in 1992 by the edge of one seat, the consequences were fateful. When Netanyahu beat Peres in 1996 by a razor's edge of one percent, the country changed course. But if the trend in the polls intensifies, and the change bloc moves further away from 61, the choice will be forming a shaky government while breaking a fine bundle of core election promises. A decision is reached when a determined bloc wins a majority and coalesces into a stable camp for years. When an eclectic collection of parties joins together for one vote in the Knesset, that's not called a decision – maybe a temporary scheme. Whoever doesn't believe it is invited to recall the adventure of the change government, how it began and how it ended. The significant development with the closing of the slates, therefore, is the merger of Hili Tropper's party into Eisenkot's slate. This was an intra-bloc tender between Yashar! and Together, but with significant consequences for the day after the elections. The members of "Zionist Home," after all, committed in the past that they would not lend a hand to a minority government, even one sworn in with the abstention of the Arab parties. Eisenkot's outline is somewhat reminiscent of what is called in halacha "the prohibition of telling a gentile." You're in a hotel in Rome on Shabbat, dying of heat, and next to you is an Italian. You're not allowed to tell him "turn on the air conditioner" because that's desecrating Shabbat. You can say: "It's hot as hell in here," in the hope he'll understand on his own. That's roughly the Eisenkot outline: we won't negotiate with Abbas and Tibi and demand "vote for us," we'll just say "if Bibi doesn't fall, it's on you." Only after the elections will we know whether laying out the plan publicly on this issue was courage or stupidity. But the logic behind it is to give voters hope for an upheaval, which will allow them to bridge difficult weeks in the polls, and the past week certainly was one. The merger talks focused on this gap between the two. After all, Tropper himself was one of those who thwarted the formation of a similar government headed by Gantz in 2020. It's clear to any sensible person what that means for the chances of forming such a government given his history, as well as the fact that with him come Elisaf Peretz and Shira Shapira, a bereaved mother and bereaved brother of people murdered by the organization that none of the Arab MKs are willing to define by the obvious name "terrorist organization." It seems the space of agreement was reached through a double understanding: one, Eisenkot will make almost every effort to broaden the government. Not Netanyahu first, but maybe second. Not Likud, then maybe Winter, or Smotrich. Anything that will allow broadening the government's base. And if not, the intention will be to swear in a minority government, but not as a long-term project – rather for a short time, either until the coalition is broadened or until elections. The public justification will be that if we're going to the polls again anyway, then the whole question is whether it's under a Netanyahu minority government or an Eisenkot one. The main problem with the scenario is the partners. Liberman and Bennett have already made clear they'll refuse to join such a move. True, they already did it in 2021 and then formed a coalition with Ra'am. But this time there is also a political interest. Why would Liberman agree to take all the fire for breaking promises in order to crown, at his not-young age, Eisenkot, who is relatively a newcomer? Same for Bennett. The reluctance will grow especially if it's clear this is a temporary move for the purpose of separating Netanyahu from the title "prime minister." Beyond the debate over whether the damage from such an alliance won't hand Netanyahu the next elections, will they let Eisenkot run a campaign from the Prime Minister's Office and drink their blood? As is known, Tropper donated a kidney; they don't intend to donate their bodies to science. The lesson of the Bennett affair and the six seats has not been fully internalized. He became prime minister not because of poker skills – which he certainly has – but as payment for breaking the promise. His other partners were committed to replacing Netanyahu, and he wasn't. This time it's Liberman, who declares he won't agree to form such a minority coalition. If there aren't 61 seats, will the Eisenkot outline, in the best case, form a Liberman government?
